President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans for a nationwide road infrastructure programme that will see 10 kilometers of roads, drains, and pavements constructed in 166 constituencies every year starting in 2026.
Launching the initiative at the relaunch of National Sanitation Day in Accra, the President said the programme will be phased and tied to sanitation performance, with the best-performing districts benefiting first.
“What is the use of rehabilitating roads and building drains only to find them littered with garbage? This initiative will encourage districts to keep their surroundings clean,” Mahama noted.
The plan, linked to his flagship 24-hour economy agenda, will also shift key sanitation services such as refuse collection and cesspit emptying to night hours to ease traffic and reduce public nuisance.
