Sports Ministry Seeks $1.12m for Black Stars’ World Cup Qualifiers

The Ministry for Sports and Recreation has submitted a $1.12 million budget to fund the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR) and Comoros.

At a media briefing in Accra, Sports Minister Kofi Adams said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presented the estimates on September 18, which were forwarded to the Office of the President the following day for approval.

The proposal allocates $733,000 for the away match in Casablanca against CAR on October 8, and $387,000 for the home game in Accra versus Comoros on October 12.

The budget covers travel, accommodation, per diems, training facilities, officiating fees, match bonuses, and other logistical needs for the team’s preparation.

Minister Adams stressed that the figures are consistent with past tournaments and rejected speculation of political interference or delays in player payments.

“The players are our priority, and we have treated them with respect and professionalism,” he said.

The Black Stars must secure at least four points from the two fixtures to stay on course for 2026 World Cup qualification.
