Gov’t, BoG Commit to Youth Empowerment at Klefe Yam Festival

The 2025 Annual Klefe Yam Festival has become a rallying point for renewed commitments to education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

Delivering a message on behalf of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Dr. Alex Segbefia announced immediate government support to strengthen the Klefe Technical Institute. He revealed that resources will be provided to complete ongoing dormitory and teacher accommodation projects, while the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has been tasked to assess the institute’s infrastructure needs for inclusion in its next funding cycle.

Beyond education, Dr. Segbefia noted that the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation will partner with the Klefe Traditional Council to promote sustainable environmental practices, focusing on deforestation, pollution, and illegal mining.

Representing the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, his aide Dr. Divine Vulley announced a donation of GH¢100,000 to support the people of Klefe. He also highlighted the Bank’s sponsorship of a five-unit boys’ dormitory at the Klefe Technical Institute, stressing the importance of investing in young people as “today’s changemakers.”

The Paramount Chief of the Klefe Traditional Area, Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, commended government and institutional support but urged the youth and citizens in the diaspora to actively contribute to community development. He further advised young people to shun social vices and embrace education and skills training as tools for future success.

Celebrated under the theme “Youth Empowerment: The Future of Our Community,” this year’s Yam Festival featured colourful displays of tradition, music, and dance. Dignitaries in attendance included the MP for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kpotosu, the MCE for Ho, Stephen Adom, and the DCE for Ho West, Peofer Francis Dusey.
