Over 1.4m SHS Students to Benefit from New AI Learning Apps from October 2025

Starting October 2025, more than 1.4 million senior high school (SHS) students in Ghana will begin using subject-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning applications, the Ministry of Education has announced.

The digital tools, tailored to Ghana’s SHS curriculum, are designed to enhance teaching and learning while supporting over 68,000 teachers in classroom delivery. Built from existing curriculum resources—such as teacher guides, lesson plans, and assessment tools—the apps will function both online and offline to ensure access for schools in both rural and urban areas.

The initiative is being rolled out in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), the National Teaching Council (NTC), and the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), with additional backing from Transforming Teaching, Education and Learning (T-TEL) and other partners.

To guarantee quality, NaCCA has introduced a four-stage evaluation process covering technical accuracy, educational standards, user experience, and regional readiness. Pilot testing is already underway in 712 SHSs, where teachers have undergone Professional Learning Community (PLC) workshops to prepare them for the new system.

Nationwide implementation will see over 7,800 SHS-based facilitators trained ahead of the October launch. According to the Ministry, the ultimate goal is to strengthen classroom teaching and improve student outcomes.

“The Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that AI serves as a tool to empower teachers and help every learner succeed,” the statement emphasized.
