Black Starlets Defeat Nigeria 2-0 to Reach WAFU Zone B Final, Seal U17 AFCON Spot

Ghana’s Black Starlets have booked their place in the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 2-0 win over rivals Nigeria in the semifinals of the WAFU Zone B Championship in Yamoussoukro.

The victory, which also sends Ghana into the tournament final, came through a dominant first-half display. Michael Awuli opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a composed finish that gave Ghana the edge.

Momentum stayed with the Starlets, and just ten minutes later, Robinho Yao Gavi capitalized on another chance to double the lead, sending fans into jubilation.

From there, the young Ghanaians controlled proceedings with disciplined defending and fluid midfield play, ensuring Nigeria found no way back into the match.

This result not only sets up a final showdown for the regional title but also confirms Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 U17 AFCON in Morocco. It marks another important step for the nation’s youth football legacy and a sign of promise for the next generation of Black Stars.
