The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reminded teachers that no one within the profession is above the law, urging them to maintain high standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability in their work.
Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize ceremony in Ho, Volta Region, Mr. Iddrisu commended teachers for their hard work and sacrifices. Still, he stressed that genuine excellence in education is grounded in ethics and professionalism.
“You are here with your heads held high, but let it be known — no teacher stands above the law. Those who fall short of acceptable professional conduct will face the full consequences of their actions,” he cautioned.
The Minister noted that the government’s ongoing educational reforms are not only focused on improving teacher welfare but also on reinforcing accountability and performance across the teaching sector.
“Quality education is built on discipline, commitment, and responsibility. The Ministry, the Ghana Education Service, and the government remain dedicated to ensuring that teachers continue to serve as role models for future generations,” he emphasized.
Mr. Iddrisu also acknowledged the economic pressures teachers face and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving their working conditions. “We understand the challenges — your earnings are modest and often do not match your efforts. But we are committed to enhancing your welfare and supporting your professional development,” he assured.
The 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize, themed “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education,” honored outstanding educators for their vital contributions to shaping Ghana’s human capital and moral fabric.
