The Inspired by Assor Foundation has honoured 60 outstanding students from 14 schools in the Fanteakwa South District at the second edition of its academic excellence programme

The initiative, led by founder Nancy Assor Asiedu-Amrado, aligns with the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” and focused on mentoring young talents in Saamang and Hemang.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Assor Asiedu-Amrado encouraged students to pursue academic excellence, sharing her personal journey of hard work and faith. She was joined by a panel of mentors, including education and health professionals, who urged students to see education as a pathway to success.

The programme brought together traditional leaders, educators, and community members, and promoted inclusivity by recognising both girls and boys. In total, 60 students—46 girls and 14 boys—received awards, including certificates, learning materials, and sanitary products for female students. BECE candidates and other junior high students were also provided with mathematical sets to support their studies.

Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, on Monday received a high-level delegation from the Dagbon Kingdom at his residence.

The delegation, sent by the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abubakari II, paid a courtesy visit to check on the Minister’s health following his recent accident. The gesture was described as both significant and heartfelt.

Leading the delegation was the Paramount Chief of Zangbalun, Naa Dr. Yakubu Mahama, who delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the Ya-Naa. The message conveyed concern for the Minister’s well-being and acknowledged his vital role in Ghana’s development, particularly within the education sector.

The Ya-Naa urged the Minister to prioritise his recovery, noting that the country’s education system depends on his leadership. He also expressed gratitude for the preservation of his life and offered prayers for his continued healing and protection.

The visit highlighted the enduring values of compassion, unity, and leadership within the Dagbon Kingdom, as well as the important role of traditional authorities in promoting social cohesion.

In response, Haruna Iddrisu expressed deep appreciation to the Ya-Naa and the delegation, describing the visit as a strong show of solidarity and goodwill during his recovery.

The engagement reflects the close relationship between traditional leadership and public service, underscoring the importance of empathy and collective responsibility in national development.
