OMCs increase in fuel prices at pumps: GOIL sells petrol at GH¢13.30 and diesel GH¢17.10

Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have begun raising fuel prices ahead of the official April 1, 2026 adjustment window under Ghana’s deregulated pricing regime.

A leading industry player, GOIL, announced via social media that the price of petrol has increased from GH¢12.24 to GH¢13.30 per litre, while diesel has gone up from GH¢15.69 to GH¢17.10 per litre.

According to the company, the adjustments are in response to a new price floor introduced by the National Petroleum Authority on March 30, 2026, despite the official pricing window running from April 1 to April 15.

Other major players are yet to fully outline their pricing strategies, although some operators have suggested that prices might have remained lower if not for the strict enforcement of the regulator’s minimum pricing policy.

Similarly, Star Oil has revised its prices upward. Petrol has increased from GH¢12.19 to GH¢13.49 per litre, while diesel has risen significantly from GH¢14.25 to GH¢17.97 per litre. The new prices took effect from 8:00 a.m. on March 31, 2026.

The NPA, in a directive issued to OMCs, set new minimum price thresholds for the upcoming pricing window. Petrol prices have been adjusted from GH¢11.57 to GH¢13.30 per litre, while diesel has moved from GH¢14.35 to GH¢17.10 per litre. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) also saw a marginal increase from GH¢10.67 to GH¢10.71 per kilogram.

The regulator emphasized that these price floors exclude additional costs such as premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies, as well as operational margins determined by Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies and individual OMCs.

Effective April 1, all OMCs and LPG Marketing Companies will be required to comply with the new minimum prices, meaning petrol cannot be sold below GH¢13.30 per litre and diesel below GH¢17.10 per litre.

The early adjustments by GOIL indicate a broader industry shift toward compliance, with consumers expected to see uniform pricing across fuel stations as the new guidelines take full effect.
