The Ministry of Education has responded to concerns raised by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) by setting up a committee to investigate the allegations made against the leadership of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
In a statement, the Minister for Education announced the formation of a three-member investigative committee tasked with examining UTAG’s claims and related issues, and to present its recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama.
The committee is chaired by Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, with members including Professor K.T. Oduro, Technical Advisor to the Ministry, and Professor Mahama Duweijua, Board Chairman of GTEC.
The Ministry has called on all relevant stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee, emphasising its commitment to dialogue and resolving concerns within the tertiary education sector.
The statement, signed by the Minister’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, reaffirmed the government’s willingness to address the issues through due process.
This development follows UTAG’s intensified demand for the removal of the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of GTEC. The association has also issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government and is calling for the withdrawal of certain directives it considers improperly issued.
