South Africa’s left with daunting homework after defeat to Mexico

Mexico sealed the victory through a second goal from Raúl Jiménez before South Africa’s problems worsened late in the game. Substitute Themba Zwane was sent off following a VAR review, reducing Bafana Bafana to nine men.

The result leaves South Africa with work to do in Group A as they seek to revive their campaign.

South Africa will face Czechia in their next match on Thursday at 16:00 GMT.
