Africa Energy Technology Centre Unveils Continental Energy Strategy to President Mahama

The Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC) has presented its long-term strategy for transforming Africa’s energy sector to President John Dramani Mahama, outlining key initiatives aimed at accelerating innovation, industrialisation and sustainable energy development across the continent.

During the engagement, the Centre briefed the President on its vision to position Africa as a global leader in energy technology by strengthening local manufacturing, promoting innovation and supporting homegrown solutions to the continent’s energy challenges.

A major highlight of the presentation was the proposed Youth Energy Entrepreneurship and Incubation Programme (YEEIP), an initiative designed to equip young Africans with technical skills, business development support, mentorship and access to financing to build successful enterprises within the energy sector.

The Centre said its broader strategy focuses on reducing Africa’s dependence on imported energy technologies by expanding regional manufacturing capacity, fostering research and innovation, and commercialising African-developed technologies for global markets.

President Mahama welcomed the Centre’s vision, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote clean energy, technological advancement and economic transformation. He noted that empowering young people and encouraging innovation will be critical to achieving sustainable development and energy security across Africa.

The presentation forms part of broader efforts to strengthen collaboration between governments, industry and research institutions in driving Africa’s transition towards a resilient, technology-driven energy future.
