The High Court in Accra has postponed proceedings in the EXIM Bank case involving NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, to July 27, 2026, to allow ongoing plea negotiations between the prosecution and the defence to continue.
The decision was made after both parties appeared before the court and indicated that discussions aimed at resolving aspects of the case were still in progress.
Chairman Wontumi is facing charges related to the alleged fraudulent acquisition of a loan facility amounting to approximately GH¢14 million for an agricultural project.
According to prosecutors, between 2018 and 2022, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and Thomas Antwi-Boasiako allegedly secured GH¢14.3 million from EXIM Bank through false representations, using Wontumi Farms Limited as the entity through which the funds were obtained.
The prosecution further claims that Chairman Wontumi submitted a forged receipt to bank officials as part of an application for an additional GH¢4 million loan facility.
He is also facing a money laundering charge, with prosecutors alleging that he knowingly benefited from funds that were unlawfully obtained.
In addition, the state contends that the transactions resulted in financial losses exceeding GH¢30 million to EXIM Bank.
Lawyers representing the accused persons have requested plea negotiations, prompting discussions between both sides.
During the latest court appearance on July 6, the prosecution informed the court that the negotiations had not yet been concluded and required additional time.
As a result, the court adjourned the matter to July 27, 2026, when it is expected to receive an update on the status of the discussions.
