NPP communicator: Baba Amando granted bail in Accra over alleged threats case

A communications officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Baba Amando, has been granted bail by the High Court General Jurisdiction 2 in Accra after spending several days in remand.

The court granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties and ordered him to report to the police every two weeks while investigations continue.

Baba Amando, also known as Abubakar Yakubu, was arrested on April 13, 2026, over allegations including offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.

Although formal charges have not yet been filed, sources indicate that the arrest may be connected to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court.

He is also accused of sharing derogatory images of the President and some members of the ruling government on social media, broadening the scope of the investigation.

The case has attracted public attention as authorities examine the limits between freedom of expression and actions considered capable of undermining public order and judicial independence.

Police say investigations are ongoing but have not yet provided further details on the case.
