Ghanaians Praise IGP Yohuno After Arrests in Berekum Chelsea Bus Attack

Ghanaians have widely commended Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following the arrest of two key suspects connected to the recent deadly robbery attack on the team bus of Ghana Premier League side, Berekum Chelsea.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests in an official statement, explaining that they were made through a coordinated, intelligence-led operation targeting the group behind the incident. The attack took place at Ahyiresu along the Bibiani–Goaso road in the Ashanti Region.

The incident, which drew national attention, led to the death of Berekum Chelsea winger Dominic Frimpong, who was shot in the head during the ambush. Several other team members were also injured as the players were returning from a league match against FC Samartex.

Following the attack, the IGP ordered a high-priority manhunt, directing the Ashanti, Western, and Western North Regional Police Commands to work together to track down those responsible.

According to police, continued intelligence efforts resulted in a breakthrough operation that led to a gun battle with the suspects. Two individuals, including the alleged ringleader identified only as “Koola,” were arrested after sustaining gunshot wounds.

The arrests have been positively received by the public, with many praising the police for their swift action and improved effectiveness under Yohuno’s leadership.

Reactions on social media showed growing public confidence, with some users describing the development as encouraging and applauding the police for their efforts, while others called for greater recognition of the IGP’s performance in combating crime.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that operations are ongoing to capture additional suspects believed to be at large, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety.
