It was such an easy decision’ – Semenyo on choosing Ghana over England

Antoine Semenyo has revealed that his decision to represent Ghana instead of England was a simple and natural choice when the opportunity came.

The AFC Bournemouth forward, who played for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, explained that he never seriously considered England because he was not part of their national team plans at the time.

“I was never really in the England rankings at the time,” he said. “Ghana came in 2021 and I just couldn’t turn them down. It was such an easy decision.”

Semenyo also spoke about the emotional impact of the decision on his family, particularly his father, who was delighted with his choice.

“My dad was so happy. He celebrated the fact that I didn’t play for England. My whole family was happy—they love the Ghanaian football team,” he added.

Since committing to Ghana, Semenyo has developed into an important player for the national team and is heading toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the Black Stars’ most in-form attackers.

His strong performances at both club and international level have cemented his place as a key attacking option as Ghana prepares for the next global tournament.
