Fuel Price Reduction Reflects Mahama Government’s People-Focused Approach – Richmond Rockson

The Communications Spokesperson for the Energy Ministry, Richmond Rockson, has said the government’s decision to cut fuel prices highlights its commitment to prioritising the well-being of Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, April 15, he explained that the move by John Dramani Mahama’s administration reflects a people-centred style of governance, especially amid ongoing global economic challenges.

“This clearly shows that the Mahama government is responsive to the needs of the people,” he said.

His remarks come after the government introduced temporary measures to reduce the impact of rising fuel prices caused by fluctuations on the international petroleum market.

As part of the intervention, the government will absorb GH¢2 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol, starting from April 16, 2026.

Rockson noted that the decision is both timely and necessary, as it will help reduce the financial pressure on households, transport operators, and businesses facing increasing costs.

He added that when global economic shocks threaten livelihoods, it is the responsibility of government to step in and provide relief, which is what the current administration has done.

The government has stated that the policy, approved by Cabinet, will run for one month while authorities continue to monitor global oil price trends and determine whether further measures are needed.

Officials say the initiative forms part of wider efforts to stabilise prices and support the country’s economic recovery.
