Select Committee on Energy to engage NPA on a proposed new Petroleum Bill

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy has continued its oversight work with a visit to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, said the visit was aimed at helping members better understand the Authority’s operations and identify areas where Parliament can offer support.

He explained that the NPA plays a key role in regulating Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, which is vital to the country’s energy security.

According to him, the Committee is particularly focused on determining whether Ghana has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet national demand.

Bedzrah also pointed to global geopolitical tensions, including the US–Iran conflict, warning that such developments could impact Ghana’s fuel supply and pricing.

He further revealed that the Committee plans to engage the Authority on a proposed new petroleum bill, noting that a draft of the legislation will be reviewed and may be submitted to Parliament under a certificate of urgency.
