Black Loopers receive boost from SESTTA ahead of historic World Championships debut

Ghana’s women’s national table tennis team, the Ghana national table tennis team, have received a morale boost as they step up preparations for the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships in London.

The team is currently training at the Accra Sports Stadium hall as they prepare for their first appearance at the global competition.

Support came from the Security Services Table Tennis Association, which presented an undisclosed cash package to each player, along with bottled water and soft drinks, aimed at improving player welfare and readiness.

SESTTA President, Chief Petty Officer Class One (CPO1) David Carboo, said the gesture was intended to motivate the players and boost their confidence ahead of the tournament.

He expressed belief in the team’s ability to represent Ghana well on the international stage, assuring them of continued support.

The Technical Director of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Charles Tachie-Menson, welcomed the intervention but encouraged further support from corporate organisations and individuals to ensure the team is fully prepared.

Captain Cynthia Kwabi leads the squad, which includes Eva Adom-Amankwah, Joanita Borteye, Augustina Baidoo, and Emerald Bortey. The players expressed gratitude for the support, saying it has strengthened their determination to perform well for the country.

Ghana has been drawn in a challenging group alongside Puerto Rico national table tennis team and Austria national table tennis team, setting up a tough but exciting campaign.

The tournament, scheduled for April 28 to May 10 in London, also marks the 100th anniversary of the International Table Tennis Federation, adding historical significance to Ghana’s debut appearance.

As preparations continue, the Black Loopers remain focused on delivering a strong performance and representing Ghana with pride on the global stage.
