Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has said he is ready to take a more active role in developing the next generation of music stars, insisting that his legacy should go beyond personal success to mentoring future talents.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Student Loan Trust Fund @ 20 Song Competition in Accra, the award-winning musician said he wants to help shape a “new street king” who could surpass his achievements in the music industry.
He stated that he is open to guiding and supporting young artistes who show promise, adding that he hopes to be part of their journey from the ground up.
According to him, the competition is not just a musical contest but an opportunity to transform lives and discover future stars.
Shatta Wale explained that the initiative aims to identify raw talent from singers and rappers and give them a platform to grow, including the chance to perform alongside him.
He noted that the winner of the competition will receive a package that includes $20,000, mentorship opportunities, and a recording deal with Foxway, a Ghanaian record label. The winner will also perform live at the anniversary celebration.
He emphasised that his goal is to see young artistes develop into major industry figures, stressing that helping someone surpass his own success would be a meaningful part of his legacy.
The competition, organised in collaboration with Hotwav GH, forms part of activities marking 20 years of the Student Loan Trust Fund, which supports tertiary education financing in Ghana.
CEO of Hotwav, Philip Nana Kwame Brobbey, said the initiative is designed to bridge education and the creative arts by offering mentorship and exposure to young talents.
SLTF Chief Executive Officer Saajida Shiraz added that the fund is strengthening its systems through digitalisation and expanded support to improve access to higher education.
The organisers say the competition will run alongside other anniversary events, combining education, entertainment, and talent development opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
