GoldBod to Supply One Metric Tonne of Gold Weekly for Local Refining

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a new agreement to supply up to one metric tonne of gold each week to Royal Ghana Gold Refinery for local refining.

The partnership, signed on Monday, May 25, 2026, is part of the government’s broader plan to increase value addition within Ghana’s mining industry and reduce the export of unprocessed minerals.

This marks GoldBod’s second refinery partnership this year, following an earlier collaboration with Gold Coast Refinery, as efforts continue to strengthen the country’s gold refining sector.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi said the initiative supports President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of ensuring that all minerals mined in Ghana are refined locally before export by the year 2030.

According to him, refining gold within Ghana will enable the country to retain refining fees, recover valuable mineral by-products, and create more jobs for Ghanaians.

He also stated that improving local refining capacity could help position Ghana as one of Africa’s leading gold refining centres while contributing to industrialisation and economic growth.

The Bank of Ghana and Royal Ghana Gold Refinery also reiterated their support for the government’s industrialisation agenda and efforts to promote local value addition within the mining industry.
