NDC Cannot Break Us’ – Titus Glover Reacts to Arrest of NPP Activist

Former Tema East Member of Parliament, Titus Glover, has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government following the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) social activist, Nana Addo Nyame.

The activist was invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday over alleged disparaging remarks made against the Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obo-Dade III.

On Thursday, national executives of the opposition NPP stormed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command to demand his release. Led by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the leadership later secured the release of the activist that same evening.

Speaking on 3FM’s “Hot Edition” with host Martin Asiedu-Dartey, Titus Glover described the arrest and detention of NPP members under the current administration as excessive and politically motivated.

According to him, the NPP would resist any form of intimidation targeted at its members.

“I want to tell the IGP, whom I have known for years, not to allow politics to soil his office. What my party is doing is right. We will do everything possible to protect the sanctity of the Constitution. The spirit of the NPP can never be broken,” he stated.

Titus Glover, who is contesting for the position of National Organiser of the NPP, also warned President John Mahama that the opposition party would not remain silent if its members are allegedly mistreated.

He further accused the government of focusing on arrests instead of addressing key national challenges, including the struggles of cocoa farmers and unemployment among the youth.

“President Mahama should focus on the problems facing the country instead of targeting NPP members. You promised jobs and a 24-hour economy, but those issues remain unresolved,” he stressed.

Responding to the allegations, a member of the NDC Communications Team, Delali Sewoekpor, dismissed the claims of intimidation and accused the NPP of using the issue for political advantage ahead of its internal elections.

He also criticised former Vice President and presumed 2028 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over a statement condemning the arrest and detention of NPP members.

According to Sewoekpor, the NPP was engaging in double standards, arguing that members of the opposition party remained silent when NDC supporters and journalists allegedly faced harassment during the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

He cited instances such as the arrest of Abronye DC and referenced controversies surrounding the “Montie 3” case to support his argument.

Sewoekpor maintained that the NPP lacked the moral authority to criticise the current administration over the arrests.
