Ga Traditional Council Revokes Naa Koowa’s Recognition as Queen Mother

The Ga Traditional Council has officially withdrawn its recognition of Naa Koowa as Queen Mother following allegations of disrespectful conduct and insults directed at traditional leaders.

According to the Council, the decision came after the Baddoo Family of Abodam Kpatashie demanded that Naa Koowa Omanye Aba retract statements considered offensive. Despite several attempts to persuade her to apologise to the Paramount Chiefs of Abola and Sempe, she reportedly failed to do so.

As a result, the family distanced itself from her actions and condemned her conduct.

The President of the Ga Traditional Council, HRM King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who is also the Ga Mantse, subsequently revoked her status as Queen Mother in line with Section 63(c) of the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759). The law makes it an offence to deliberately insult or use disrespectful language against a chief or traditional ruler, whether verbally or through conduct.

A directive issued by the Ga Mantse further warned that additional penalties could be imposed for each day the alleged offence continues if Naa Koowa persists in such behaviour.
