A tragic story has emerged from the recent building collapse at Adenta New Site, where 35-year-old mother of three, Margaret Kpeli, lost her life while trying to protect her children. According to her sister, Georgina Robinson, Margaret sacrificed herself by shielding her children when the three-storey building collapsed following heavy rainfall.
Georgina recounted that when news of the collapse broke, she repeatedly called her sister but received no response. Upon arriving at the scene, she learned that some of the children had already been rescued while Margaret remained trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue teams later saved the remaining child, but Margaret could not be rescued in time.
According to Margaret’s eldest child, the family was having a meal when the building suddenly gave way. In an effort to protect her children, Margaret threw herself over them, shielding them from the falling debris. She reportedly suffered severe injuries from metal rods and other collapsing materials, ultimately losing her life while ensuring her children survived.
The family had only moved into the building last year after it had been under construction for several years. While mourning their loss, relatives expressed gratitude that the children survived the tragedy and are receiving medical care.
