The owner of the building that collapsed at Adenta New Site is set to be arrested for allegedly ignoring a stop-work order issued by the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly. According to the Municipal Chief Executive, Ibrahim Fuseini Faila, the developer had been granted approval to construct only a single-storey building but reportedly continued adding more floors despite being ordered to halt work.
The MCE revealed that the Assembly had warned the owner about a year ago to stop construction, but the directive was allegedly disregarded. Authorities are now searching for the developer, who is expected to face legal action for violating planning regulations.
Mr. Faila stressed that the collapse was preventable and blamed it on the failure to comply with building regulations and official instructions. He added that the owner would also be required to bear the cost of clearing the debris from the site.
The incident, which occurred during heavy rains, resulted in casualties and injuries, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of building and planning laws. The Assembly has also intensified its crackdown on unauthorized structures, with several illegal buildings already demolished and more earmarked for removal.
