Severe flooding has displaced over 3,000 residents across several communities in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region, following days of relentless torrential rainfall that caused local rivers to overflow their banks.
The rising floodwaters inundated hundreds of residential homes, farmlands, local markets, and essential infrastructure, forcing affected families to seek shelter in temporary centers, schools, and churches. Local authorities reported significant damage to personal property and livelihoods, with key roads rendered impassable, effectively cutting off connectivity to neighboring districts and hampering initial relief efforts.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), alongside municipal leaders, have dispatched emergency teams to assess the damage and distribute critical relief items, including food supplies, safe drinking water, blankets, and medical kits. NADMO officials have cautioned residents living along low-lying areas and riverbanks to relocate to higher ground, as weather forecasts indicate the possibility of further rainfall in the coming days.
