Cheaper DStv: Four New Permanent Packages Take Effect November 5

In a major restructuring aimed at easing financial pressures on households and combating content piracy, MultiChoice Ghana and Canal+ have announced the introduction of four streamlined subscription packages that will permanently replace the existing six tiers starting November 5, 2026.

Unveiled during a joint press conference in Accra on Monday, October 26, by Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George alongside MultiChoice and Canal+ executives, the revised pricing structure reduces the number of options to four distinct tiers: Starter (GH¢50), Select (GH¢100), Sports (GH¢250), and Ultimate (GH¢570). MultiChoice Ghana Country CEO Alex Okyere emphasized that these adjustments are permanent pricing changes rather than temporary promotional offers. Crucially, football enthusiasts will now be able to access the complete sports lineup—including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League—at a significantly reduced cost under the GH¢250 Sports package, compared to the previous GH¢563 requirement.

The sweeping overhaul follows extensive collaborative engagements between the Ministry and pay-TV operators designed to expand consumer access to legitimate content while undercutting illegal streaming operations and “ghost boxes.” Minister Nartey George noted that the government is coordinating with the National Communications Authority (NCA), Cyber Security Authority, and the Attorney-General’s Department to launch a stringent technical crackdown on IP piracy. Industry stakeholders hailed the initiative as a vital milestone for safeguarding creative industry livelihoods and ensuring equitable access to high-quality television broadcasting across Ghana.
