State Housing Company Targets 3,000 Housing Units by 2029

The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has set a target to deliver 3,000 housing units by the end of 2029 as part of efforts to strengthen its operations, expand revenue streams and increase housing delivery.

Managing Director John Sherrif Bawah announced the target during a working visit by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Mr. Bawah said the company was developing a clear pipeline of projects to ensure it meets the target within the stipulated period.

“We have a target of 3,000 units with a very clear and strong pipeline for delivering on these units within the time we have given by 2029,” he said.

Urban Redevelopment and Financial Commitments

Mr. Bawah outlined several priorities intended to support the company’s housing delivery target, including an urban redevelopment pilot project, meeting its financial commitments to the government and strengthening the SHC brand.

He said the company was also seeking to expand its estate management services and explore additional revenue-generating opportunities to improve its financial position.

“Part of the things that we want to do under this are the urban redevelopment pilot, meet our financial commitments to the government, and build a stronger brand,” he stated.

The managing director added that growing public attention on the company could help raise its profile and strengthen its market position.

“As I said, all publicity is good publicity, so people are talking about state housing, so I believe we are on the right track. And then we want to expand our estate services and revenue generation options,” he said.

SHC Moves to Strengthen Operational Capacity

Mr. Bawah further disclosed that the company had begun taking steps to improve its operational capacity, including strengthening its human resources and acquiring new assets to support its activities.

“Some of the things that we’ve done so far include retooling the human capital. Very soon you’ll see some new assets that we are bringing in to help the operations,” he added.

The planned improvements form part of the company’s broader efforts to enhance efficiency, diversify its services and increase its capacity to deliver housing projects.

The 3,000-unit target represents a key milestone in SHC’s plans through 2029, with the company expected to pursue project development, urban redevelopment and operational improvements to support delivery.
