The Manya Krobo Traditional Council has conferred the prestigious title of Yokama upon Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang in recognition of her distinguished public service and profound contributions to societal development.
The honor was bestowed during the special women’s celebration of the 133rd Ngmayem Festival held at Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region. Celebrated under the theme “Strengthening Our Bonds: Advancing Growth Through Heritage and Unity,” the week-long festival brought together traditional rulers, dignitaries, and community members to honor Krobo heritage while promoting civic unity. Addressing the vibrant gathering, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged traditional authorities to collaborate closely with state institutions to implement robust community-level policies that empower women and support youth development.

The Konor of Manya Krobo and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II, noted that the Yokama tradition—established over two decades ago—specifically celebrates exceptional women leaders for their professional distinction and societal impact. This year’s ceremony also marked the conclusion of tenure for outgoing titleholders, whose impactful community interventions included scholarship funds, healthcare support, and prison rehabilitation initiatives, setting a high benchmark for community-driven development under the revered cultural title.
