The Ghana Stock Exchange ended the penultimate trading session of the week on a strong note, with the GSE Composite Index rising by 172.12 points to close at 14,934.57. This marks a fourth straight session of gains, pushing the market’s year-to-date return beyond 70 percent.
Market capitalisation also increased from GH¢278.31 billion to GH¢280.24 billion, reflecting sustained investor confidence, even as trading activity slowed slightly with total volume at 1.85 million shares and turnover at GH¢9.9 million.
GCB Bank continued its impressive rally, gaining GH¢2.71 to close at GH¢44.98. The stock has surged nearly 30 percent over the past four sessions, with more than GH¢2.38 million worth of shares traded, making it one of the day’s most active counters.
MTN Ghana (MTNGH) also extended its upward trend, rising by GH¢0.07 to reach a new all-time high of GH¢6.59. It recorded the highest traded value on the day at over GH¢4.91 million, reinforcing its position as the market’s most valuable listed company.
ZEN Petroleum Holdings posted another strong performance, climbing GH¢0.50 to close at GH¢5.55—nearly a 10 percent gain—as investor interest in the newly listed firm remains high.
Other notable gainers included Republic Bank Ghana, which rose GH¢0.37 to GH¢5.09; SIC Insurance Company, up GH¢0.33 to GH¢5.14; and Dannex Ayrton Starwin (DASPHARMA), which edged up by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.41.
On the downside, Fan Milk Limited recorded the biggest drop, falling GH¢0.30 to GH¢12.20. Enterprise Group Limited declined by GH¢0.12 to GH¢11.08, while Benso Oil Palm Plantation shed GH¢0.86 to close at GH¢85. Ecobank Ghana also dipped slightly by GH¢0.01 to GH¢48.89.
Activity on the alternative market picked up, with increased trading volumes recorded in some equities, although prices remained unchanged.
The market heads into the final session of the week with strong momentum, and if the rally in GCB Bank and MTN Ghana continues, the GSE Composite Index could approach the 15,000-point mark by the close of trading.
