The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Alfred Mensah, a 19-year-old mason resident in Awodua, Western Region, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour after he was found guilty of defiling a seven-year-old kindergarten pupil.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by the sitting judge. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lartey, detailed that the incident occurred in Awodua, where Mensah lured the young victim into an uncompleted building before committing the assault.
Following a report made by the child’s parents, police officers in Awodua apprehended Mensah and transferred the case to the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for thorough investigation. A medical examination subsequently confirmed the assault, leading to the charges brought before the circuit court.
