Ghana Embassy in China Encourages Local Businesses to Leverage Canton Fair

Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has urged Ghanaian businesses to take advantage of the renowned China Import and Export Fair by securing exhibition space to promote value-added and locally manufactured products to international markets.

The call was made during a working visit to the China Foreign Trade Centre in Guangzhou, where Ambassador Bonsu met with the Centre’s Director General, Zhu Yong, alongside Ghana’s Consul General in Guangzhou, Sidney Kwesi Ellis.

According to the Ambassador, Ghana should move beyond exporting raw materials and focus on promoting processed and manufactured products such as processed minerals, food products, ceramics, textiles, and automobile components. He emphasized that the Canton Fair can serve as a strategic platform for Ghanaian industries to expand their reach and access global markets.

He also noted that Ghanaian exporters stand to benefit from China’s zero-tariff policy for least-developed countries, which could make Ghanaian products more competitive internationally.

Officials of the China Foreign Trade Centre welcomed the proposal and expressed readiness to support more Ghanaian companies seeking to exhibit at future fairs. They encouraged Ghanaian manufacturers to showcase value-added products capable of attracting international buyers.

As part of the visit, Ambassador Bonsu also attended Ceramics China 2026, where discussions focused on technology transfer, equipment supply, and market opportunities.

The visit supports Ghana’s efforts under the Critical Minerals Policy 2023, which promotes local processing of strategic minerals and greater value addition before export, with the broader aim of strengthening industrialization and increasing export earnings.
