Adwoa Safo Denies Carrying or Firing Gun in Shooting Incident

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has dismissed allegations that she was armed or fired a weapon during the recent shooting incident at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo.

Speaking to journalists while receiving medical treatment, Adwoa Safo described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that she neither owns a firearm nor has ever used one. She maintained that her visit to her brother’s residence was purely as a family member and not intended to provoke any confrontation.

The former legislator also rejected reports that she drove her vehicle into the gate of the property before the incident. She stated that her vehicle, currently being examined by police, only shows damage resulting from gunfire and not from any collision.

Providing an update on her condition, Adwoa Safo disclosed that medical examinations revealed bullet pellets and fragments of shattered glass lodged dangerously close to her brain, raising concerns about the seriousness of her injuries.

The incident, which occurred on June 21, 2026, in Kwabenya, is believed to be linked to an ongoing leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.

According to a statement from the Safo family, Adwoa Safo had gone to serve a court injunction aimed at stopping the planned installation of her brother as leader of the church. The family alleged that gunshots were fired during the confrontation, resulting in injuries and property damage.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo and two other individuals — Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson — to assist with investigations.

Police disclosed that a search of Israel Safo’s residence and vehicle led to the discovery of various rounds of ammunition, loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which was legally registered in his name.

The arrests have intensified public attention on the succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission, where competing factions continue to disagree over the church’s leadership. Investigations into the shooting remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine any criminal responsibility.
