England and Ghana share points in goalless World Cup clash

The Black Stars of Ghana and England played out a 0-0 draw in their Group L encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leaving both sides well-positioned in the race for qualification to the next round.

Led by captain Jordan Ayew, Ghana produced a disciplined defensive performance to frustrate an England side captained by Harry Kane, with neither team able to find a breakthrough throughout the match.

The result moves both teams to four points in the group standings, strengthening their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz made two changes to his starting lineup, introducing Spain-based players Iñaki Williams and Thomas Partey, who had missed the team’s opening game due to visa-related issues.

England manager Thomas Tuchel fielded a strong side in search of a victory that would have secured qualification, but his team struggled to break down Ghana’s organised defence despite dominating possession and attacking through the wings.

The first half produced few clear-cut chances, with England controlling much of the ball while Ghana remained compact at the back. The only notable incident before the break was a yellow card shown to Declan Rice for a late challenge.

England came closer after halftime, with Rice’s set-piece delivery leading to an effort that struck the crossbar before Kane was unable to convert the rebound.

Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was called into action several times and made important saves, including one to deny substitute Bukayo Saka.

The Black Stars maintained their defensive discipline until the final whistle to secure a valuable point.

Ghana will next face Croatia national football team, while England take on Panama national football team on June 27 as Group L qualification remains wide open.
