Austrian Bundesliga defender Beres Owusu has expressed his desire to represent Ghana, saying wearing the Black Stars jersey would be a dream come true.
The Grazer AK centre-back, born in France to Ghanaian parents, says his upbringing kept him closely connected to Ghanaian culture and identity despite growing up abroad.
Speaking in an interview, Owusu said playing for the national team would mean more than football, describing it as a source of pride and cultural representation.
“For me, it will mean a lot, it’s not just about football, it will be about the pride and the culture,” he said.
He added that he has always identified with Ghana and made up his mind early about his international future.
“Even though I was born in France, it’s been something I knew since childhood that if I’m to play for the national team, it will be Ghana,” he said.
The 22-year-old defender has been gaining recognition in Austria with Grazer AK, where he has established himself as a key part of the team’s defence this season.
His comments add to the growing pool of diaspora players expressing interest in joining the Black Stars as Ghana continues to expand its talent base.
