Salomey Awiti Baffoe Granted GH¢100,000 Bail Over Alleged False News Publication

The Adenta Circuit Court has granted Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, following her appearance in court in connection with the ongoing “Ghana Jollof” false news investigation.

Baffoe, a 40-year-old health professional from Techiman, was granted bail after spending nearly a month in custody following her initial arrest for allegedly abetting the publication of false news on social media platforms. Under the terms set by the court, both sureties must be civil servants earning not less than GH¢3,000 per month.

The decision comes after previous bail applications were denied at the High Court, which had initially cited concerns over potential witness interference and the cyber-related nature of the ongoing police investigation. Defense counsel, alongside human rights advocacy groups, had repeatedly pushed for her release, maintaining her presumption of innocence and raising concerns over prolonged pre-trial detention.
