Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following a High Court order authorizing his arrest.
The lawmaker’s decision to present himself to law enforcement comes shortly after an Accra High Court issued a warrant granting EOCO legal backing to apprehend him. According to state prosecutors, the MP is under investigation regarding allegations of financial loss to the state and money laundering, stemming from ongoing inquiries into public finance management and institutional transactions.
The issuance of the warrant follows days of heightened tension after an initial attempt by security operatives to detain the MP near the High Court premises led to a dramatic confrontation. While legal experts and parliamentary observers debated the procedural validity of executing an arrest warrant against a sitting member of legislature without formal notification to the Speaker of Parliament, Baffour Awuah opted to voluntarily appear before investigators to cooperate with the ongoing probe.
