North Industrial Area Fire: GNFS Clears Structures to Battle Blaze

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced the demolition of temporary and encroaching structures around the North Industrial Area in Accra to create crucial access routes for firefighters battling a major blaze at Duraplast Ghana.

The fire, which broke out earlier in the day, quickly escalated due to the high concentration of combustible industrial materials on-site. Firefighting crews initially faced severe operational challenges accessing the seat of the inferno, as surrounding structures, parked vehicles, and dense informal settlements impeded the deployment of fire tenders and heavy emergency equipment.

Emergency personnel remain on the scene executing tactical containment measures to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining factories and commercial warehouses within the industrial zone. GNFS officials have called for public cooperation and urged residents and traders in the immediate vicinity to clear passage routes as multi-agency fire suppression efforts continue.
