Star Oil Rejoins COMAC, Calls for Reforms to Governance Structure

Star Oil Ghana Limited has announced its decision to rejoin the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), ending a months-long dispute following the initial suspension of its membership over industry pricing policies.

In re-engaging with the industry body, Star Oil has called for structural reforms to COMAC’s governance framework to ensure fairer representation, enhanced transparency, and balanced decision-making among all downstream petroleum market participants. The indigenous oil marketing company had previously distanced itself from the Chamber following disagreements surrounding proposed floor pricing mechanisms, advocating instead for competitive, market-driven pricing models to benefit consumers.

The reconciliation marks a significant step toward restoring unity within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector. Industry leaders expect that Star Oil’s return and its proposed governance reforms will foster constructive dialogue between major distributors, regulatory authorities, and independent marketers as the industry navigates evolving market dynamics.
