President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the double-track system in senior high schools will be completely phased out by 2027 through ongoing infrastructure expansion projects.
According to the President, government is investing heavily in classroom blocks, dormitories, laboratories, and other facilities to create enough space for students under the Free SHS programme. He explained that the current double-track arrangement was introduced due to limited infrastructure and increasing enrollment numbers.
The President stated that the new school expansion projects under the STARR-J initiative would significantly improve learning conditions and restore the traditional academic calendar in schools.
Parents, teachers, and education stakeholders have largely welcomed the announcement, although some have urged government to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
