Fisheries Minister begins tour of inland fishing communities

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, is set to embark on a six-day working visit to inland fishing communities across Ghana.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the tour—starting Wednesday, May 6, 2026—is aimed at gathering firsthand insight into the condition of the inland fisheries sector, evaluating key facilities, and deepening engagement with industry stakeholders.

According to the ministry, findings from the visit will contribute to discussions at the upcoming Inland Fisheries Conference, as the government looks to improve infrastructure and strengthen policies to support growth in the subsector.

As part of the tour, the minister will visit selected communities in the Greater Accra Region, Volta Region, Oti Region, Ashanti Region, Bono East Region, and Savannah Region. She is expected to interact with fisherfolk, inspect facilities, and take part in a strategic planning session in Techiman.

The initiative highlights the ministry’s effort to ensure that policies are shaped by the real needs and experiences of inland fishing communities. Stakeholders and the public have also been encouraged to actively engage throughout the process.
