Gov’t moves to recover $30m from contractor over stalled road project

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has disclosed that government will take legal action to retrieve about $30 million from an Indian construction firm, JMC Projects, for allegedly failing to begin work on a road project after receiving mobilisation funds.

According to the minister, the company had earlier assured authorities of its financial and technical capability, which contributed to it securing the contract.

He explained that although Parliament approved approximately $158.6 million for the project, and nearly $30 million was paid to the contractor as mobilisation, no significant work has been carried out.

Mr Agbodza noted that the lack of progress on the project has compelled the government to take steps to recover the funds and ensure accountability.

While the specific project was not disclosed, he emphasized that the ministry will not tolerate breaches of contract that delay critical infrastructure development.

He added that the ministry is working closely with the Attorney General to pursue the matter through legal means and reclaim the public funds.

JMC Projects is known for executing infrastructure projects across several countries, including roads, bridges, hospitals, and power facilities, and has positioned itself as a firm committed to efficiency, safety, and timely delivery.
