Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu says expanding SHS infrastructure is key to fixing ongoing Computerised School Placement System challenges.

According to him, increasing investment in school facilities nationwide will help reduce pressure on the placement system and enhance access to quality secondary education.

Speaking to candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Asawinso Senior High School on Monday, May 4, the Minister assured students that government remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition from junior high school to SHS.

He also encouraged candidates to stay calm, noting that a nationwide sensitisation campaign will soon be launched to guide them in making informed school choices.

Mr Iddrisu further explained that resolving persistent placement issues requires deliberate and sustained expansion of SHS infrastructure, including more classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and improved teaching and learning materials.

Data from the Ghana Education Service shows that last year, 483,800 students were successfully placed into secondary schools across the country, representing 82% of the 590,309 qualified candidates and marking an important step in their academic progression.
